You might as well buy a new game for that much that took years of effort to develop then a train on a screen that took a few days to paint.Īnd paying 20 dollars for a train in a game is completely different then paying 20 for a model train.Įxcept a model train doesn't cost 20 but 200. You have none of that with a virtual train. A model train has aesthetic appeal, you can hold it, and show it of to friends. And paying 20 dollars for a train in a game is completely different then paying 20 for a model train. Not only the price but the vast amount of bugs in the game that never got fixed. A lot of train enthusiasts actually found it very disturbing. I disagree reading the reviews of it on steam. u/GreatOnion338 deleted his comment while I was replying, it was: It's not like regressive DLC in the usual way where companies charge for trifles, but this is actual downloadable content each kind of which is made carefully and accurately and is something actual toy train enthusiasts love a lot. My dad is into this stuff and likened turning away from TS because of all the DLC to going into a store, seeing that it would cost you a few thousand dollars to buy all the games for the PS3, and saying 'oh man, fuck that, video games aren't for me'. Model trains is a really, really, expensive hobby, yo. Meanwhile people who are actually into trains tend to view it was an awesome and affordable way to get cool shit that isn't really possible in the standard old fashioned trainset hobby universe.
I always find it funny that gamers (not in this thread, just in general) tend to go out of their way to point out that everything Train Simulator has to offer is like, $2,500, and paint it as some exploitative DLC model or something. The developers cater to a really, really, wide range of train enthusiasts. I remember reading a response to this during the summer sale, and until someone can give a first-hand account, here's the comment by /u/Free_VNasty:īecause there is a ton of Train Simulator DLC. Now I'm seeing way to many games that look to be unfinished products with dlc or expansions that try to fix up the bugs and add in gameplay that should have been included in the first place. Then in a year or 2 they would have made an expansion that would add a lot more missions, campaigns, and levels to beat. It used to be that publishers would make a complete game and sell it at 40-50. How did we get to this point where companies are offering dlc left and right for insane prices. I can't be the only one who finds it unethical to charge so much. The game itself is pretty exciting to play from what I've read online so I feel like if there's enough content in the game then 55 isn't a horrible price, but what I find fault with is having so much dlc. I can't imagine why people would buy any of the dlc's. Yet people seem to be fine with this since the company still hasn't lowered it's prices, meaning that the game and dlcs have payed for themselves. Apparently it is a business strategy that has worked for them or they wouldn't be selling it at such a high price. I honestly can't believe the publisher of train simulator thought it was a good idea to have 193 dlc with most items being $20-40 dollars. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gaming r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion R/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting.
